Sweet and Sour Sauce

This tangy, flavorful sauce can be quickly made and drizzled over any protein to give it instant zing!
Make ahead: You can make this up to 5 days ahead of time and store in the fridge.
Freeze: Spoon into ice cube trays and freeze overnight. Then pop the "ice cubes" out and store in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 3 months. Simply reheat on the stove or in the microwave when needed.
To make coconut-free: Omit the coconut aminos or you could also make your own coconut-free coconut aminos using this recipe by Mel Joulwan. I recommend making a batch of this and freezing it in an ice cube tray, giving you approx 2 tbs of "coconut aminos/soy sauce" per ice cube to use whenever you need it!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup Pineapple Juice
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Sugar, Maple Sugar, or Honey
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Aminos see note above about making coconut-free
  • 1 tbsp Arrowroot Powder can also use tapioca starch or cassava flour

Instructions

  • Mix all of the ingredients into a small saucepan and heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until it simmers and thickens.
